Old Masters Week – New York City

This week some beautiful Old Masters artwork will be in Manhattan. Old Masters art is European art that was created from about the 15th to the 18th centuries. During Old Masters week Christie’s and Sotheby’s will be having many sales.

Christie’s has many highlights. An 18th century painting by Giandomenico Tiepolo is estimated at 2-3 million dollars. A 17th century self-portrait painting by Artemisia Gentileschi is estimated at 3-5 million dollars. Another interesting 17th century painting done by the Studio of Frans Hals is estimated at $80,000-$120,000. This unique painting is actually painted in a way that the canvas is in a diamond shape instead of a square. The subject is a young man playing the flute.

Sotheby’s has some impressive artwork as well. An 18th century painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard is estimated at 6-8 million. The subject is 2 girls playing with their dogs. Another cute painting from the 17th century is by Jacob Ochtervelt. It shows a child with a nurse and a dog.

The 2 auction houses have a great variety of items. Between watercolors, drawings and oil paintings, you have a lot of old masters artwork to see this week.
